Backpack Buddies is back up and running for the second semester of the 2023/2024 school year and they need our help!
For those who might not be familiar with the Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta (BPBMA), they are a non-profit organization that partners with local churches and community organizations to provide “backpacks” of free food to be sent home with students who are food insecure. Since 2019, Kingswood has provided 20-30 backpacks of food each week for students in need. You can learn more about BPBMA here: https://www.backpackbuddiesatl.org/.
Individual organizations (such as Kingswood) partner with BPBMA as a “Community Buddy.” BPBMA procures all of the food needed for distribution to its Community Buddies who pack and deliver the bags to partner schools each week. The BPBMA ‘warehouse’ is in the Williamsburg (aka Chick-Fil-A) Shopping Center on Jett Ferry Road.
Would you like to help with this ministry?
We are currently in need of volunteers to: (1) pack the bags each week; and (2) deliver the packed bags to Cary Reynolds Elementary School every Wednesday between 10:45 and 11:00 am.
This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for a family or small group. With 3-5 individuals working together, a week’s worth of packing can be accomplished in (well) under an hour. Picking up from Kingswood and delivering to the school takes about 45 minutes.
