Dear Members of the Kingswood Church Community:
In my earlier letter announcing the temporary closure of Kingswood Church, I noted that we would remain closed through at least Sunday, March 22. Our state, county, and city all remain in a state of emergency relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, and schools in the DeKalb County School District remain closed indefinitely.
In order to support our state and local leaders in “flattening the curve” and mitigating the spread and impact of COVID-19, Kingswood Church will remain closed indefinitely, including The Kingswood Preschool and all outside activities hosted in the church. We will concentrate our efforts in connecting with each other in ministry, virtually instead of physically. Though our building may be closed, your staff remains hard at work creatively rethinking how to host on-line worship, Sunday School classes, youth meet-ups, and our ministries of care and compassion for those in need.
Our mission at Kingswood doesn’t rely on the four walls of the church. Over the coming days and weeks, I challenge us to live out our cornerstones of ministry:
- Worship: Attend our online services posted to the web and sent via email each week, and find a few minutes each day to draw near to Christ — through a daily devotional, prayer, music, or spiritual disciplines.
- Welcome: We can be radically hospitable to those around us, because physical distancing shouldn’t mean social distancing. Pick up the phone and call a friend. Talk to your neighbors from across the driveway. Try a FaceTime or Skype video chat with someone who needs a word of encouragement.
- Service: The needs in our community are great, and our commitment to service remains strong. Pray for others, write notes of encouragement, or volunteer to help those that need it pick up groceries or prescriptions. Help a community organization providing food or services, if you are able.
- Sharing: Maybe you’ve never felt comfortable inviting someone to our church building. But why not forward our worship service email bulletin with an invitation to worship with us?
Yes, our ministry looks different right now. But the Good News of Jesus Christ remains more important than ever.
If there is anything we can do to support you during this time, please call the church office at (770) 457-1317.
In His Love and Grace,
Rev. Charles E Broome
